This is the full press release:

Pet Shop Boys release 'Montage', a new live video and DVD, on 12th November 2001
Filmed on their 1999/2000 'Nightlife' world tour, 'Montage' is a unique concert film featuring live footage presented simultaneously over layers of backdrop projections and videos.
The main concert footage was filmed over 2 nights in Germany; this was then augmented with material collected from many different sources, including news footage and filmed footage from shows on the American leg of the tour. The film also utilises the original projections of the show, plus parts of Pet Shop Boys' videos and other films, including a film of a casting session for a video.
The whole film captures not only the unique nature of the 'Nightlife' tour, with its stage set designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, but the innovation that runs through all of Pet Shop Boys' work. 'Montage' is a stunning visual experience with a soundtrack of Pet Shop Boys classics, including many of their hit singles.
Imagine a hi energy disco sequence in Kubrick's 2001, or a production of 'West Side Story' as conceived by Almodovar and you begin to get the picture of the 'Nightlife' show, wrote the 'Independent on Sunday' when the tour played New York.
The surround sound music mix on the film was done by Bob Kraushaar.

24th August 2001 - Closer To Heaven Cast Album

The original cast album of 'Closer To Heaven' is released on Monday 24th September 2001.
This is the full press release:

The original cast album of 'Closer To Heaven' is released on Epic/It records on Monday 24th September 2001. Produced by Stephen Hague and Pet Shop Boys, the album features 15 Tennant/Lowe compositions including 11 new songs. The show opened at London's Arts Theatre in May and is now booking until February 2002.
Already hailed as the world's first twenty-first century musical, 'Closer To Heaven' on record reunites Pet Shops Boys with Stephen Hague for the first time since l993's 'Very'. The results are simply stunning.
Recorded this summer at London's Rak Studios, 'Closer To Heaven' features sparkling performances from the stars of the show including Paul Keating as the sexually confused hero Straight Dave and Frances Barber as the iconic ex-rock idol Billie Trix.
Highlights are many and include the disco fever of the forthcoming first single 'Positive Role Model', 'My Night' and 'Out Of My System' coupled with some of the most beautiful songs the duo have ever written: 'Nine Out of Ten', 'Friendly Fire' and 'For All Of Us'.
"The majority of cast recordings are a straight recording off the stage," says Stephen Hague. "We've made a pop record that happens to feature various members of the cast. The songs are handled differently in the show for dramatic purposes."
"It's unusual for an original cast album because it has the same production values as a pop album," Neil Tennant adds. "Originally the show was called 'Nightlife' and the songs were going to appear on our 'Nightlife' album. In the end we decided to make the show and our album separate entities but we still included three songs from the show on the 'Nightlife' album: 'In Denial', 'Vampires' and 'Closer To Heaven'."
"The song 'Shameless' was originally a B-side to 'Go West' and went into the show because it was appropriate to a scene. Otherwise there are 11 new Pet Shop Boys songs. It's great to hear our songs performed by other singers and we're particularly pleased with the way the last seven songs segue one into another. Musically, it's quite ambitious."
Unlike more traditional cast albums, 'Closer To Heaven' works on it's own or as a companion piece to the show. A show where the positive critical reaction rose loud and proud above the rest.

NME called 'My Night' a "Showstopper" and went on to describe 'Shameless' as "an uproarious tune about wannabe popstars."
Sheridan Morley in the International Herald Tribune said: "the show does for the Soho of today what 'Cabaret' did for the Berlin of the 1930's” and went on to say “In the words of one of Tennant's best lyrics, this is a show about the impossibility of love in a world where sex is a cruel sport. One of the few really intriguing breakthroughs in the contemporary British stage musical."
"Many of the songs are pretty sensational," declared The Sunday Times. "Striking that very Pet Shop Boys balance between camp catchiness and cold, utterly unsentimental desolation. Who would have thought it? That faced with a choice between Lennon/McCartney and Tennant/Lowe, the latter would win hands down?"
"For under-35s who despise the sounds of old fashioned musicals, 'Closer To Heaven' should sing loud and alluring," proclaimed the Evening Standard. "The Pet Shop Boys music is simply beautiful."
The Observer said: "An antidote to the sentiment and elephantiasis that have sapped the modern musical. The music better, the rhymes sharper than most of what cruises round the West End."

Judge for yourself. After all, there's no business like showbusiness.

19th August 2001 - Happy 20th Anniversary Pet Shop Boys!

Then, just to top all this (and again I've been promised that this is true!) Chris pulled out a CD from his pocket of demos from the new album. 3rd July 2001 - Wotapalava Is Scrapped

Pet Shop Boys and CAA regret to announce the postponement to next year of this summer's Wotapalava tour, which was due to visit 18 markets this July and August.
The original line-up for the largest openly gay touring festival was to include Pet Shop Boys, Sinead O'Connor, Soft Cell, The Magnetic Fields and Rufus Wainwright, as well as DJs Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia. However, the last minute withdrawal of Sinead O'Connor and the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement with such short notice have led the producers to believe that it would be unwise to proceed with the tour this summer.
"This has been a difficult decision to make as the idea of Wotapalava being the largest gay-friendly tour has attracted much enthusiasm and interest, and so much work as already gone into its organization," said CAA Department Head of Music Rob Light. "We are already making preparations to ensure that Wotapalava will become a reality next year."
Pet Shop Boys and CAA wish to apologize to those who have already purchased tickets and to thank those who have put so much effort into Wotapalava. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.
"We have made this decision with the greatest of reluctance," commented Pet Shop Boy/Wotapalava creator Neil Tennant, "but it seems impossible to proceed without a complete line-up of artists. We look forward to coming to America next year."

8th June 2001 - Not So Good Closer To Heaven Review

Today's edition of the 'Daily Mail' newspaper features, well let's say, it's not the best review of 'Closer To Heaven'; "As a London musical at West End prices, it is nothing short of a disgrace. And a sleazy unpleasant one at that. Verdict: Closer to hell, actually - 1 out of 5."

4th June 2001 - Another Good Closer To Heaven Review

Today's edition of the 'Metro' newspaper features a fab review of 'Closer To Heaven'; "...'Closer To Heaven' plays more like a series of club anthems mixed with a few satirical vaudeville turns and Sondheimesque ballads (such as the brilliant 'Friendly Fire'). And, somewhat surprisingly for such an odd mix of genres, the result is irresistible."

'Closer To Heaven' received glowing reviews in three British newspapers today: 'The Observer' ("...the music is better, the rhymes sharper than most of what cruises round the West End."); Boy George in the 'Sunday Express' ("'Closer To Heaven' is a breath of fresh air for theatre...it was exciting to see how well modern song and groove work in the theatrical context."); 'The Sunday Times' ("Who would have thought it? That faced with a choice between Lennon/McCartney and Tennant/Lowe, the latter would win hands down?").

31st May 2001 - Neil Tennant's Press Statement For Wotapalava

Neil gave a press conference yesterday, for journalists in the USA. This was held at the HBO studios in New York City. Neil was beamed in via satellite for the journalists.
Read his press statement below.

Wotapalava is a music festival, produced by Pet Shop Boys and CAA that will visit 17 North American cities this summer.
The name, Wotapalava, is an English slang phrase which roughly translates as "What a fuss about nothing".
The performers will include, on the main stage, Pet Shop Boys, The Magnetic Fields, Soft Cell and Rufus Wainwright. There will also be a dedicated dance stage featuring a rotating line-up of some of the world's biggest DJs, including Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez and Paul Oakenfold. Many of the dates will also feature special guests including Village People and Gloria Gaynor. At some dates there'll be surprise guests.
The idea of the festival came about a couple of years ago during a conversation with Elton John. Wouldn't it be great to put together a bill of out gay performers? Who would agree to do it? Would the performers have anything in common apart from their sexuality in this sort of Lollaplooza-with-a-difference?
The festival evolved from this idea. It will feature the diverse talents of artists, many of them gay, and celebrate the dream of basic fairness and equality for all people.
More important than the sexuality of the performers is their individuality, the way each of them has followed their own instincts to achieve their artistic goals. In this respect, Wotapalava is a celebration of the freedom to be what you want to be and about having the power to live as you want without fear or discrimination. I think one really important thing about Wotapalava is the way the diversity of the artists contradicts any stereotyping: we are not defined solely by our sexuality. Being homosexual is an important part of life but not the whole point.
We are delighted to have the support of the Human Rights Campaign. Last year we played at the huge anti-hate crime concert in Washington and were very impressed and moved by the way the message of anti-hate and anti-discrimination was put across. Wotapalava aims to carry the same message. And members of the Human Rights Campaign will be on hand at each venue with information about the discrimination gay Americans continue to suffer under the law and in their everyday lives. Also a dollar from each ticket will benefit the work of the campaign.
But let's not forget Wotapalava is a party. For everyone.

Neil Tennant

For the six bonus CDs, each titled 'Further Listening', the duo have compiled a compelling selection of mixes, hits, previously unheard versions and b-sides that, together with the re-mastered studio albums, documents their career from 1986 until 1997. Each album comes with a 36-page booklet featuring full lyrics, rare archive photographs and new interviews with the duo in which they discuss the background to every song.

18th March 2001 - Closer To Heaven Press Release

'Closer to Heaven' with music and lyrics by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe (Pet Shop Boys) and book by Jonathan Harvey ('Beautiful Thing', 'Gimme Gimme, Gimme') opens on May 31st at the Arts Theatre following previews from May 15th.
As you would expect from Pet Shop Boys and Jonathan Harvey, this is not your average musical. It is a riotous story of sex, drugs, clubland and the music industry but at its heart is a love triangle.
Straight Dave, a sexy young barman fresh from Ireland falls for the beautiful, ambitious club manager's daughter Shell and the young, street-wise drug dealer Mile End Lee. The iconic Billie Tricks, hostess of London's most successful club night, oversees the action while the outrageous pop band manager Bob Saunders has his own plans for Straight Dave. As fame and fortune beckon, Dave has difficult decisions to make.
'Closer To Heaven' features 15 new songs from Pet Shop Boys, and electrifying club choreography by Peter Darling ('Billy Elliot' and the musicals 'Merrily We Roll Along' and 'Candide').
"We've always liked the theatre and our live shows have had very strong theatrical elements," says Neil Tennant. "We've wanted to do a musical for ages because we wanted to see if it was possible to put contemporary pop music onto the stage."
The songs are vintage Pet Shop Boys though the writing process was different. "We've had to write songs to progress the plot so we've written to a brief," Chris Lowe explains. "But stylistically the music is Pet Shop Boys music. That's the whole point of it."
The seeds of 'Closer To Heaven' were first planted eight years ago when the BBC wanted to commission a musical and suggested that Neil and Chris work with Jonathan Harvey. They saw his play 'Beautiful Thing' and subsequently approached Jonathan with the idea of collaborating on a musical.
They decided they would come up with an original story rather than base their musical on an existing book or film. The three of then sat down and came up with the basic idea for the 'Closer To Heaven' plot and the principal characters over a few months. Jonathan began to write the script while Neil and Chris wrote the music.
Over the last six years the project has reached fruition. "Sometimes Jonathan has suggested ideas for songs and sometimes we've suggested scenes and Jonathan has written them," says Neil. "It's been a lot of fun working with him."
A cast album will be released later this year produced by Neil, Chris and Stephen Hague and featuring the cast.
'Closer to Heaven' will be directed by Gemma Bodinetz ('Breath,Boom'-Royal Court Upstairs, 'Luminosity'-now in rehearsal for RSC) and designed by Es Devlin ('Henry 1V Part One and Two' - RSC,'Betrayal' -National Theatre). 'Closer To Heaven'' will have sound design by Simon Barker, lighting by Mark Henderson and musical supervision by Chris Nightingale.
From June 4th, performances will be Mondays to Thursdays at 8pm, Fridays at 6pm and 9:15pm and Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm. Prior to this there will be only one performance on Fridays at 8pm. Ticket prices are £18.50, £22.50 and £28.50 for the Monday to Thursday and Friday at 6pm performances, and £20, £24 and £30 for the 9:15 performance on Fridays and both performances on Saturdays. Tickets will be available from the Arts Theatre Box Office on 020 7836 3334 and go on sale March 19th.
'Closer To Heaven' is A Company on Stage Production - creative & Executive Producer Kevin Wallace - in association with Terry Brady, MAT Theatrical Entertainment S.A. de C.V. & Stella entertainment.
"We hope that it's going to be very different from anything anyone's ever seen before on a London stage," says Chris Lowe.
"We haven't set out to do a big West End musical," adds Neil Tennant. "It's an attempt to do something new - contemporary drama with contemporary music."

For more information visit the Closer To Heaven website.
