21st November 2011 - Beyond Theatre

Last night at the Savoy Hotel in London, the Pet Shop Boys and choreographer Javier De Frutos attended the Evening Standard Theatre Awards during which their ballet, 'The Most Incredible Thing', was presented with the "Beyond Theatre" award, recognising innovation. Accepting the award alongside Chris Lowe and Javier De Frutos, Neil Tennant thanked Emma Gladstone and Alistair Spalding of Sadler's Wells for "nursing" the ballet through from original idea to production, dancer Ivan Putrov for suggesting that they write a ballet score, and playwright Matthew Dunster for helping to adapt the Hans Christian Andersen story on which the ballet is based. The award was introduced and presented by the artist and film director (and PSB collaborator) Sam Taylor-Wood who explained that the new "Beyond Theatre" award was for people who swap genres and break boundaries: 'The art form that doesn't change is in danger of stagnating.'

16th July 2011 - Take That Statement Regarding Copenhagen Cancellation

We are truly devastated to have had to cancel tonight's show in Denmark. This is the first show that we have ever had to cancel in our career as a band. It was a horrible decision to make and one we agonized over.
On Friday night, Rob suffered serious food poisoning from something he had eaten after the show. He was violently ill all night and well into the morning. At 10am this morning, he decided to relocate to his dressing room at the stadium, in the hope that he could recover and prepare for the show. Doctors visited him twice during the day and despite prescribed medication he was still vomiting at 4pm this afternoon. The doctor insisted that he was not fit to perform tonight.
The five of us then had a decision to make: Should we go on with the show without Rob or should we cancel altogether? What would be fairer to our fans? What would people want? It was a very, very difficult decision. In the end we felt that as this tour is about the five of us being back together, and about celebrating that reunion, it would be wrong to go ahead with the show. We also knew that no matter how hard we and our team worked, in the short time we had to make the neccessary changes to this hugely complicated and technical production, the show could never be what we wanted it to be, and nor could it be what our fans expect and deserve from us.
We are now back at our hotel and still cannot believe what has happened. Rob is still very unwell, and we are all just focussing on getting him better so we can put on our show in Amsterdam this coming Monday.
We would like to say from the bottom of our hearts that we are truly sorry to all of you who have bought tickets for tonight's show.
Thank you for your continued support.
Love Mark, Gary, Jason, Howard and Rob

Neil added, "It's a big shame that tonight's Take That concert in Copenhagen has been cancelled because Robbie Williams is suffering from food poisoning. We're disappointed too. Neil x"

31st January 2011 - The Most Incredible Thing Press Release

Tennant/Lowe.
The Most Incredible Thing.
Performed by Pet Shop Boys and the Wroclaw Score Orchestra conducted by Dominic Wheeler.
2CD/Digital Release date: Monday 14th March 2011.
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe release the music for their first ever full-length ballet, 'The Most Incredible Thing', on Monday 14th March 2011 through Parlophone Records. The ballet is a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain's leading contemporary dance theatre, Sadler's Wells. Based on the Hans Christian Anderson story of the same title, it runs at Sadler's Wells in London from 17th-26th March 2011. Tickets are on sale for the first run of performances of 'The Most Incredible Thing' andare priced between £10 and £40. Buy tickets at Ticketmaster.
Tennant and Lowe proposed Andersen's story as the basis for a new ballet to Sadler's Wells in London in 2007 after a friend, the then Royal Ballet principal, Ivan Putrov, asked Neil Tennant if the Pet Shop Boys would consider writing a piece of music for him to dance to at Sadler's Wells. Coincidentally a couple of days later, Chris Lowe suggested to Neil Tennant that 'The Most Incredible Thing' would make an excellent narrative for a ballet and, inspired by this synchronicity, they approached Sadler's Wells with the project. The following year Javier De Frutos was chosen as the choreographer. The story is about a competition in a mythical kingdom where the King announces that whoever invents the most incredible thing will win the hand of the Princess in marriage and half of the Kingdom. What follows is creative, destructive but ultimately happy.
Tennant and Lowe composed most of Act One in autumn, 2008, and the rest of the score in 2010. The music is a combination of electronics and orchestra. They approached the young German musician Sven Helbig to create the orchestrations and at the end of 2010 these were recorded in Poland with the Wroclaw Score Orchestra conducted by Dominic Wheeler. After the initial run of performances of The Most Incredible Thing in March 2011, a return to Sadler's Wells followed by a tour is planned for 2012.
Neil and Chris said, "This is a very exciting project to be part of. In the past we have written dance music so to write music for a ballet seems like a logical development. Also we have always been fascinated by giving our music a theatrical context."
The album is released worldwide (international release dates vary slightly), including a simultaneous USA release by Astralwerks. Production is by the Pet Shop Boys and Sven Helbig and the album was mixed by Bob Kraushaar. Artwork design is by Farrow/PSB based on an original paper-cut by Hans Christian Andersen. Pre-order 'The Most Incredible Thing': UK CD.
